Full Sail Brewing Awarded Six Medals

| April 14, 2005 - (Hood River, OR) Full Sail Brewing Company has been awarded six major medals, including a Platinum, three Gold and two Silver in the 2005 World Beer Championships, a blind tasting competition conducted by the Beverage Testing Institute (BTI) of Chicago, Illinois. As a small independent brewery, our 47 employee-owners are honored to receive recognition in a field of some of the finest breweries in the world. This is our ninth gold medal for our flagship, Amber, and we are delighted to show our commitment to provide the highest quality to our consumers, always," said Irene Firmat, Full Sail's CEO & Founder. The competition included beers from many highly respected brewers from around the world including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and the United States.
The medal winners include:
PLATINUM: Wassail Winter Ale - 96 Points, "Superlative" - Wassail is a lush, garnet ale brewed with a combination of pale malt, several specialty malts, and hopped with varieties of British and Bohemian hops. Wassail previously won Gold in the 2004 WBC (World Beer Championships).
GOLD: Full Sail Amber Ale - 90 Points, "Exceptional" - Full Sail Amber is Oregon's original amber and won 7 previous gold medals from the WBC and one from the Great American Beer Festival. A great tasting, malty sweet, medium bodied ale with a reddish amber hue and a spicy floral hop finish.
GOLD: Full Sail IPA - 91 Points, "Exceptional" - This new brew from Full Sail is a Northwest style IPA that is generously hopped to 60 IBU's with Yakima Valley hops. It is a thirst quenching IPA with a pronounced citrus flavor and a full malty body.
GOLD: Old Boardhead Barleywine Ale - 93 Points "Exceptional" - Brewed with Two-Row Pale, Roasted Black, Dextrin and Crystal malts, as well as flaked barley, for a strong sweet body. It's hopped with Willamette and Mt. Hood hops. This beer won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup 2004, a Silver at the World Beer Cup 2000, and a Silver at the Great American Beer Festival 1999.
SILVER: Full Sail Pale Ale - 86 Points "Highly Recommended" - Brewed in the American Pale ale style, this pale ale has a fresh hop aroma, a crisp clean flavor and a refreshing finish. Full Sail Pale was awarded Gold at the 2003 WBC and Silver at the 2001 and 2000 WBC.
SILVER: Rip Curl Ale - 89 Points "Highly Recommended" - Rip Curl is an English Pale Ale with a Northwest twist. A tasty copper-colored ale that is easy drinking with a smooth malty flavor and a clean fast finish. This beer was rated "One of the Top 100 Beers and Spirits" by Wine Enthusiast magazine. It won two previous Silver Medals in the 2001 and 2002 WBC.
